Lo Duca: $5 million

I thought I had put this up earlier, but Lo Duca's deal is for one year and $5 million. That's $100,000 more than Schneider was supposed to make in 2008 ($4.9 million) but $4.8 million less than he was due to make for the remainder of his contract ($9.8 million for 2008 and '09).

This is the first real short-term free agent signing of the Lerner era, one meant specifically to address the needs of the 2008 team. The qualifications for such a deal, Jim Bowden said last week, was that it couldn't get in the way of anything they were trying to do long-term.

Sorry I didn't post that earlier. Hope that helps inform the discussion.
