Blue Heaven -- and a chat!

First things first, and I should have mentioned this yesterday, but I have a chat at 1 p.m. this afternoon -- right when the game is starting. Please join me.

The clubhouse is still buzzing about Joel Hanrahan's performance last night at Disney, blowing away the Braves over three innings. The easy guess: He makes this team because he's out of options, and as Manny Acta said, "We want to stockpile arms."

The main story in the $.35/$.50-edition dealt with the question of the Opening Day pitcher. My guess is that, even if they don't announce it, we'll know who it is by the weekend just by figuring out how they break up Chico, Bergmann and Perez and getting a further idea from John Patterson about whether he'd go on short rest once over the remainder of the spring. As Patterson said last night, "Right now, I'm pitching Monday in Philadelphia."

In Vero Beach today, and this is the beginning of the Dodgers' last weekend (if you can call Wednesday a weekend) training here -- ever. Just talked to Tommy Lasorda about it all. If you haven't been down here, it's too bad. It genuinely is different, and I'll try to get that kind of feel into the paper. "It has an aura," Acta said.

Other notes: The club expects Ryan Zimmerman to be fine, though Acta said he might give him tomorrow off as well (he's not on the trip today, as scheduled). Jesus Colome, who hasn't pitched in a Grapefruit League game this spring after being delayed with visa problems, should do so shortly, Acta said.

Oh, and Jeff Weaver: I included the L.A. Times's news that Jered Weaver said the Nats are interested. The price, from what I'm told, is going to have to be right (read: low). But I'll do some more work on this today. Asked if he needed more arms to bring into the season, Acta said, "I'm fine with the guys I have here."

Here's the lineups:

Washington:
Cristian Guzman -- 6
Ronnie Belliard -- 4
Lastings Milledge -- 8
Austin Kearns -- 9
Alex Escobar -- LF
Aaron Boone -- DH
Matt Whitney -- 3
Humberto Cota -- 2
Willie Harris -- 5

Mike O'Connor -- 1

Los Angeles:
Juan Pierre -- 7
Rafael Furcal -- 6
James Loney -- 3
Andre Ethier -- 9
Jason Repko -- 8
Blake DeWitt -- 5
Gary Bennett -- 2
Ivan DeJesus -- 4
Chad Billingsley -- 1

(Uh, I can't imagine the Dodgers are allowing the Nats to use a DH but not using one themselves, but who knows.)

Talk to you at 1 p.m.
