Lineups from Shea

When Svrluga and I walked into Shea today, we passed about four or five security guards near the entrance. Not a single person bothered to seek our credentials. We just walked right in. I'm guessing that by now, most people are figuring that nobody comes here unless they absolutely have to.

An hour before the first pitch, the wind is whipping. The line of American flags atop the stadium are flapping so hard, they sound almost like the spinnaker on a sailboat in the angry seas. One gust somehow slid under the white infield tarp and peeled a huge flag away from home plate. It took about 10 guys to wrestle the tarp back into position.

But the good news: No rain right now. Looks like they're gonna play.

The lineups.

Washington
Lopez - 4
Guzman - 6
Zimmerman - 5
Johnson - 3
Milledge - 8
Kearns - 9
Mackowiak - 7
Flores - 2
Perez - 1

New York
Reyes - 6
Church - 9
Wright - 5
Beltran - 8
Alou - 7
Delgado - 3
Easley - 4
Schneider - 2
Figueroa - 1

Something to amuse us while we wait for the official calling off of this game (or not):

Everybody in the outfield can catch the ball!

Who is this Svrluga you refer to?

Looks like basically the same lineup...when is this team going to shake things up! When they are 25-65?

:(

Who is this Svrluga you refer to?

At this point, only Guzman deserves a starting position. Everyone else -- including Zim -- should have to battle to be in the lineup every day.

I'm sorry but I just don't understand why Macowiack (sp) is still getting playing time. Yes he hit a HR in Houston and made a heck of a catch, but we need some serious power in the lineup asap. Why not give Dukes another shot?

Posted by: Pablo | May 12, 2008 6:58 PM | Report abuse

Seriously, folks, how can Aaron Boone not be in the lineup tonight?! After just getting three hits?

Is Manny blind? Or, is the lineup coming straight from Jimbo?

Posted by: swanni | May 12, 2008 6:58 PM | Report abuse

Better yet, have Lopez play LF and start Boone!

Posted by: Pablo | May 12, 2008 6:58 PM | Report abuse

I agree on Dukes -- if he's going to be here (and be a daily threat to do something stupid), then play him! Let's see what he's got.

This team gets more puzzling every day.

Chico, my man, you have a gold mine worth of stories to discover.

Gut reaction on Mickviaokodioysk starting is with the cold and wind they don't want to risk Re-aggravating Dukes hammy.

Posted by: MKevin | May 12, 2008 7:08 PM | Report abuse

I thought Jimbo was the problem, but I'm beginning to think Manny isn't the solution.

Posted by: swanni | May 12, 2008 7:12 PM | Report abuse

Chico....that was snarky...and I like it!

Posted by: phillip | May 12, 2008 7:14 PM | Report abuse

Can Boone play LF? That guy should be starting every fricking game if you ask me.

Posted by: Pablo | May 12, 2008 7:15 PM | Report abuse

Can Boone play LF? He's never played it, which means he would be better than Willy Mo out there.

Blah, blah, blah, hate, hate, hate

That's all I hear

15-23....that's hateful.

Mets first. J.Reyes popped out to first baseman N.Johnson. Church grounded out, second baseman F.Lopez to first baseman N.Johnson. D.Wright walked. D.Wright stole home.

Had did wright walk and then steal Home!

Posted by: Lost | May 12, 2008 7:30 PM | Report abuse

he stole second and then scored on a hit.

Posted by: Anonymous | May 12, 2008 7:32 PM | Report abuse

Wright didn't steal second -- it was gift wrapped.

Posted by: swanni | May 12, 2008 7:33 PM | Report abuse

Wright just used his Nats EZ Pass on the bases.

Posted by: leetee1955 | May 12, 2008 7:36 PM | Report abuse

did the nats just score a run without a hit? i only thought that our opponents did that.

Posted by: natsscribe | May 12, 2008 7:38 PM | Report abuse

Sure didn;t take the Mets long to get that run back. Swanni, I'm of a mind to give your opinion about Manny some credence. There should be no guaranteed jobs on this team. Looks like a new post is already up.
