Milledge leaves game with groin injury

Another game, another injury. In the third inning tonight, Lastings Milledge injured his right groin trying to chase down a triple hit by Alex Cintron. Milledge had to leave the game. He was replaced by Willie Harris.

The injury happened when Milledge sprinted into the left-center corner. He first tried to cut off the ball with a leg first slide. Unable to stop the ball, though, he rose back to his feet, took a few more awkward steps toward the wall and tumbled into the fence. It looked like his right ankle might have been caught right at the base of the fence. But it was unclear when, exactly, the injury occurred. By the time Milledge tumbled against the fence, he was already grimacing with pain.

It took him about 30 seconds to hobble off the field.

Looks like Balester is getting the call up to take Hill's spot and make his ML debut on Tuesday. The Balester era begins!

John's just not getting it done tonight.

I have to agree with you Ed on your other comment about getting better hitters. I think that's Bowden's job.

I've coached a lot, albeit basketball, and it's apparent when teams have no game plan and don't develop throughout the course of a season. That's all coaching.

And there is no, absolutely no excuse at any level for not playing hard thus my problem with Lopez.

I've cut or benched more talented players in favor of hard working and team oriented players and have a lot of success with that.

There are some angry looking clouds outside my window. Maybe it will rain at Nats Park before the bottom of the inning.

"who is the idiot in charge who did not see the same radar as everyone else and not put tarp on field BEFORE all hell broke loose?????"

That would be the umpires. While the home team has the decision on whether or not to play if weather is bad before the game begins, once it starts it's entirely up to the umpires. They probably weren't watching the radar because they were umpiring the game, doofus.

What happened to the Pope blessing the Nats and their stadium? Yikes! Now Milledge. Too bad, he was getting it together and as Bos noted was on his way to maybe 20 HR's and 25 SB's.

This week, the Nats debut Bernadina (wasnt he up in 2006 for a hot minute?) and Balester.

Who else makes a pre-September debut from the farm system?

hey ray,

regarding the umpires deciding when to stop game, they are in constant contact with the field operations during innings and know when weather is approaching. any dufus knows that.
