Felipe Lopez's future
Well, this is what happens, I suppose, with on-the-fly blog reportage. Here's the reasoning to believe that Felipe Lopez's time with the Nats might be measurable in hours. When GM Jim Bowden was asked about how the deal affects Lopez's role/future, he paused and said, "No comment."
Lopez hasn't heard word about a move from either his agent or the team, but he acknowledged that there's a good chance he'll soon be out the door. He also acknowledged that somebody who's played like he has over the last two years probably deserves as much. He's not in the lineup tonight either.
A few snippets of what Lopez said with the tape recorders on...
Feelings on the acquisition of Gonzalez?
"It's a good opportunity for him. He's a good player. I don't know. You know? My future doesn't end here. I'm still young. I'm healthy. You've got bumps on the road, but you overcome them."
Do you know how much longer you'll be here?
"I don't know. I wish I knew so I could play the lotto... I have no problem here. The only problem is that we lose every damn day. It could be anywhere. That's the only bad thing. But everybody gets along. You know, it's good here. So I don't have any problems here."
