Pena Down, Estrada Up
Sorry it took a while to get this posted -- I was en route to Atlanta -- but now that I've landed, snagged a rental car, driven to the ballpark, talked for 10 hilarious minutes to a 74-year-old ballpark employee about Sunday's Turner Field Kenny Chesney concert (he had never seen so many drunk girls in boots!) and taken my seat in the press box, it's time to get along with things.
Today's transaction:
The Nats have placed Wily Mo Pena on the 15-day disabled list and recalled catcher Johnny Estrada. Now, the first part of this was a no-brainer. Within the next few days, Pena will have shoulder surgery to repair a small tear and impingement in his left rotator cuff and fraying of his labrum.
But Estrada? He had been rehabbing for 16 games with stops at four -- yes, four -- Nats minor league affiliates. Assuming we're still calling Paul Lo Duca a catcher, this gives Washington four catchers on the active roster.
I'll have more info on this before the game.
