Teixeira and Swisher and Smoker, Oh My
Good morning and welcome to Day 1 of free agency.
In case you missed it, Boz had a chat with Stan Kasten about the Nats. Boz will chat with everyone else today at 3 p.m.
Also, Marc Carig talked with Josh Smoker yesterday about his surgery. It seems to me they let this shoulder problem go unresolved a little longer than necessary, but maybe they figured, hey, he's 19, it can't be anything serious.
Enjoyed the debate on the previous post about the Swisher trade and what it might mean to the Nats. I think it's entirely possible the Yankees could use him in the outfield, but I also think they want Sabathia more than Teixeira. And of course, just because the Yankees MIGHT be out of the hunt, that's no reason to assume the Nats will get him.
All that said, here's one opinion on the Yankees' intentions, from
Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

We love the double entendre:
"Now they are prepared to hand Sabathia, a lefty ace, the largest pitching package in history"
