Oh By The Way
There was a game today. Let's summarize in a paragraph.
Washington 2, Detroit 1. The Nats are now 1-1. Nick Johnson went 0-for-2 with no injuries. Dmitri Young (who'd missed the last few days with a hand contusion) appeared as a pinch-hitter and drew a walk. The Nats' two young pitchers, Collin Balester and Jordan Zimmerman, teamed up for the first four innings. Combined line: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 ER. Zimmermann struck out three of the six batters he faced. Detroit managed just two hits. The best offensive effort for Washington belonged to Pete Orr, who went 2-for-3 and scored both runs.

Youppi! (not Screech).

Youppi went to the Canadiens, I think. But good thought.

I was multi-tasking as I listened, but did Meat Hook have a walk as well as a HBP?

BTW, new post.

So Youppi! is out of work in the summer. Let him come down after Les Habs are knocked out of the Stanley Cup. Or let's make a wager - Caps knock them out, we get their mascot; Habs win, they can take Screech hostage.

@1a1:
No, he just got bonked, then subbed out from the looks if it.
New role for 2009 - Dimitri = DHP [Designated Hit-by-Pitch].

Good thinking, jca.
Thanks, BinM. I like the DHP idea.

Not that I want Dmitri to be plunked, mind you.

Dmitri was actually up twice, the first time being hit by a pitch. He was on second base with no outs when Bernadina was asked to bunt and, were it not for bad fielding by the Tigers' pitcher, would have caused what might have been a triple play. The next time up, Acta mercifully put in a runner for him.

I think Dmitri drew a walk to the shoulder... he was HBP.
Perhaps it was his gravitational pull.
