Late Night Reading: Dominican Republic and Shawn Hill

Hi everyone-

As people surely remember, Barry was down in the Dominican Republic last month, digging into anything and everything connected to baseball prospects, the buscones who love them and the teams that set up facilities to help players, buscones and major league scouts find each other. The result is a pretty fantastic piece which we hope you'll read right here.

Luckily, photographer Sarah Voisin was along for the Dominican ride, so there's truly exceptional art with Barry's story; here is a photo gallery.

Just for a refresher on what brought Barry and Sarah to the Dominican, here's some of Barry and Chico's recent work on now former Nationals Dominican chief -- and former World Series MVP -- Jose Rijo. And here's what Barry reported from the mouth of the prospect at the epicenter of the entire scandal, Esmailyn Gonzalez, or Carlos Daniel Alvarez Lugo if you prefer that sobriquet.

As for things a little closer to home -- and by a little I mean Florida -- Chico weighed in on the mysteries of Shawn Hill's forearm tightness, which is getting pretty freaky. And as he alluded to right here yesterday, Javier Valentin is looking like an interesting option as a backup behind the plate.

That's all for now, but keep posted here and with the rest of our Nationals and baseball coverage for more news from Florida on Monday.

Jesus! Adam Dunn just took the most leisurely swing ever and launched one a huge HR into the 2nd deck at SkyDome! Wow! I can't wait to watch this guy all year.

Dunn is having a good game. Lets hope it carries over to the season.

Looks like Adam Dunn is going to be Adam Funn at Nats Park this year. A pleasant change of attitude in the dugout for sure.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Reminds me a little of Alfonso Soriano in 2006. Great smile and confidence. AS never let the pressure get to him.

Great seeing that interview they just did with Adam Dunn and glad to see Hanrahan get through his 2/3 of an inning.

Let Frowney go. His contract is invalid and he is too damn old. Get rid of him. He is just a reminder of the bad old Bowden days!!!!

Had fun watching Dunn again last night. I was rooting for the mercy rule to kick in so that I could get to bed earlier, but they didn't quite get there.

See you all at the new posts.
