From Quiet Space Coast

All along, today had been designated as an off day -- even for those who didn't resign over the weekend. Right now, Space Coast Stadium is a ghost town. A few pitchers (I'm spotting Marco Estrada and Shairon Martis, among others) are hanging out with Randy St. Claire in the right field corner performing some easy drills. Dmitri Young and Daniel Cabrera are down in the clubhouse. But otherwise? Crickets.

The lineup for tomorrow's game against Italy (a run-up to the WBC) is already posted on the clubhouse bulletin board. Catcher Jesus Flores isn't starting, but he's listed as one of the team's six bench players. I'm assuming that means his elbow strain won't be holding him back whatsoever.

This is also the morning of Stan Kasten's gather-the-troops meeting. Most of the cars in the parking lot here belong to team execs and front office types. In previous springs, Kasten has normally spent only a few days in Viera. But now, Kasten has been here for almost two consecutive weeks -- just another reminder that this hasn't exactly been your typical spring. For almost everybody associated with this organization, it's been an exhausting, fascinating time. And now we get a GM search.

I'll let you what shakes down today.

Just read a blurb on espn.com that Joel Hanrahan has been named to the USA's WBC squad, replacing BJ Ryan. Any truth to it?

Interesting re. the WBC if true (and a little scary).

Good work on finding the Screech video, NatsNut. I hadn't been able to turn it up earlier. I've always loved the high stocking look, and he's trimmed down quite a bit as well. No doubt at least one person will be glad that his cap comes off now (where's the Star Spangled Banner guy when you need him?). Overall I like the energy and the fresh look (the gaping mouth is a little off-putting but what the hey). Hey, maybe we'll end up like the Rays what with revamping the team image and all (hey, a fan can dream, right?).

Oh, I forgot the best part: looks like the pelvic thrust may be a thing of the past.

Re. the other link, seemed more like revisionist NJ history to me, but whatever.

And you were right, BinM (new post).

1a1, hope you're right that the hip thrusting era is over. Not only creepy and distasteful, but baffling.

And Screech's hat comes off which should assuage that lone questioner at the former Svrlugachat

Yeah. It's pretty quiet up here, too. All in all, Space Coast gets the better of this day off.

True, CE, and we don't even want to hear any whining about cold Florida weather. ;-)
