Good points on Lannan, jca.

I'm not convinced on Hill for closer. The Closer is such a psychological role (otherwise, why not just stick your best match-up out there for the 9th, it makes more sense stats-wise) that I think "overpowering fastball" goes a lot further than "killer sinker" on just three batters.

Closers tend to throw less types of pitches, too. With most sinkerballers, the key is throwing several different pitches, so when the sinker comes along, the batter isn't ready when the bottom falls out. A sinkerballer closing would rely on having to convince the batter you're NOT going to throw the sinker, and Shawn Hill's other stuff isn't that out of the norm.

Also, if the ump has a high strike zone, Hill is a walk machine, remember?

What is the point of that line up?

Is Patterson going to play for the Nats....ever? Is anyone going to trade for Patterson? Clearly the answer is no. Meanwhile Milledge has one hit all spring. We know he is a very slow starter...

Is J Guzman going to ever play for the Nats? Does anyone want him in Trade? No again.

L Davis....please....where are the guys we are going to have to start on openin day in 30 days? Do we really want to start a season with guys with less than 100 spring training ABs?

The line-up was all I needed to know that this is going to be an away game. The Nats have not won an away game yet, and it speaks to the quality of our potential call-ups from Syracuse. It starts to change my mind about whether to trade anybody to relieve the outfield glut, because the team really doesn't have great depth.

The only scrub in that lineup that has really impressed is Bernadina, who has to be glad he didn't join the Dutch team for the WBC.

+1/2St.

Joel Guzman at 1B; Not Whitney, Eldred or even Casto? And "popgun" Patterson in the #5 slot? Wha-a-a-t-t-t?
