Lineups Versus Mets

Here's your lineup for tonight at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. Johan Santana starts for the Mets.

Milledge - 8
Belliard - 4
Willingham - 7
Kearns - 9
Bard - 2
Castillo - 5
Casto - 3
Gonzalez - 6
Lannan - 1

A few more notes, as the cherry on top.

* Don't expect to see Rule 5 draft pick Terrell Young again this spring training. Though he is now beginning a throwing program with pitching coach Randy St. Claire, the first step back after a right shoulder flare-up, Manager Manny Acta said today that the exhibition season could be over by the time Young is ready to go. This all but end Young's chances to stick on the 40-man roster. The team can retain the 23-year-old if it works out a trade with Cincinnati, Young's previous team.

* More on Hernandez: On Monday, the second baseman will try some jogging or running. After that test, the team will have a better idea of his readiness for Opening Day.
"We don't have any specific date when he can be ready, but we are anticipating it will take less than we thought at the beginning," Acta said.

* Julian Tavarez, who went to the Dominican Republic to retrieve his work visa, will be back with the team tomorrow.

Guarded good news re: Hernandez. Also good to hear Taverez can now put in some real work. Too bad about T. Young - the timing of the shoulder flareup couldn't have been much worse for the kid.

Tonight's lineup - meh. It will be nice to see guys like Belly, Willingham, Kearns & Bard get some AB's, however.

Kearns cleanup? Is this a split-squad game?

@jd50:

It's an away game (Port St. Lucie); as good as a split-squad.

I'm nervous about Hernandez maybe coming back before his hammy is truly healed . . .

A reinjury would make it a lot worse.

There goes Santana's no-hitter.

Lannan's line (through 5IP) - 4H, 2ER, 11 ground-outs / 0 fly-outs, 0BB (1HBP), 1K.

Santana's line (through 5IP) - 4H, 1 ER, 7 ground-outs / 5 fly-outs, 0BB, 3K.

Pretty good matchup so far.
