Acta Ejected From Ballgame
For just the second time in his career, Manny Acta has been ejected. The manager was tossed at the end of the third inning, just after Elijah Dukes was called out on strikes. The ejection occurred under strange circumstances, too: Acta only left the dugout after getting tossed. It's unclear why, exactly, Acta was tossed by home plate ump Tim Timmons, but after Dukes went down looking on an outside breaking ball, Timmons turned toward the Nats' dugout and motioned for the ejection. Acta then came out and briefly argued. Jim Riggleman now is running things on the bench.

Single by Hernandez to drive home AGonz; NJohnson grounds out to end the inning. 2-1 Natinals - end of 4.

LOL! Dunn must of buttoned it over the wrong way. The "O" was underneath. That's funny.

Actually, they got a shipment of factory second jerseys in today at the team store. Tomorrow they'll be selling them at premium prices as "game worn".

Any more info on what Manny said to get himself tossed?

Riggleman left Lannan in to sacrifice AG to second. I bet Manny would have pinch-hit in that situation since he always loves to go to the bullpen.

To avoid being called a second guesser, let me say this now. If Lannan doesn't pitch the seventh, it makes no sense to let him bat, even if he did bunt successfully. (Hernandez just made the last out) Put a real hitter in there and try to get something more than a sacrifice bunt. As Earl Weaver said, "If you play for one run, that's all you'll get."

a man on first with one out, he's throwing a 3-hitter and his pitch count is reasonable. that's about as easy a call to let the pitcher sacrifice as you'll ever see.

Lannan is still on the mound. Nolasco hit for himself earlier in the game for the Marlins, but he did not come out to pitch the next half-inning.

close game you save the hitters for more probable situations. too early to burn through them.

If you're going to take out Lannan after one batter, I think I would have pinch hit for him to get a better hitter in there, with a runner on base. I'd rather have two good batters come up with a runner on first than have only one come up with a runner on second.
Either way, kudos to Lannan for good work. This game's a little easier when your starters do a good job.

Lannan is one of the top performers for the night on the ESPN scoreboard. Way to go!

Don't forget, longterm, we technically have an extra bat, with the third catcher. Although I wonder if Guzman is really available...
