After The Rain Delay
* We had a delay of two-hours, two-minutes. That means Willie Harris's at bat (interrupted with the count 3-2) lasted about 2:03. He struck out. Later in the top of the fourth, the Nats again loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score. Cristian Guzman popped to shallow left, and Ryan Zimmerman grounded into a forceout at second. The Nats have stranded six runners in the last two innings.
* Wil Ledezma is the new pitcher for the Nats.
* Shairon Martis's line: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, I HR, 48 pitches, 29 strikes. This is obviously deceptive, because Martis would have kept pitching were it not for the rain delay, but he becomes the third Washington starter in four games to pitch just three innings.

Wait, I don't get it. You say that Milledge's correct play is halfway between 2nd and 3rd. But if Francoeur catches it, M is stuck at 2nd. (Unless he's REALLY stupid and challenges Francoeur's arm.) If he is at a tagged situation, if Francoeur catches it, he's at 3rd. If Francoeur doesn't catch it, on most bounces he'll still be at home, which is no different than the midway positon. I think the correct play is at a tagged position. It's unfortunate that the bounce was such that he couldn't be home, but thems the breaks.

JayBeee, give it a rest. There are enough legitimate opportunities to bash Milledge, and you never miss a one. Sticking the knife in and turning it even when you have no evidence on your side other than hearsay just makes you look mean and petty, like someone carrying out a vendetta. Maybe you are.

Nice outing for Shawn Hill tonight at Petco.
5.0 IP, 7 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks, 2 ER. He left the game with the bases loaded and no outs. His reliever got the Padres out of the jam.

It obviously sucks leaving so many guys on base the last couple games, but at least we're getting them on. There's actually a decent chance to score A LOT of runs if the clutch hitting ever comes around.
Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 12:59 AM | Report abuse
Ah, thanks - just getting caught up. Not on the TV here in PHX and I just skimmed the live box score.
Posted by: DesertNat | April 11, 2009 12:59 AM | Report abuse
By the way, regarding Willingham, have any of the announcers started referring to him as 'The Hammer' yet? That was always his nickname down in Miami.
Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 1:02 AM | Report abuse
Carp called him the hammer tonight.

atl bullpen pretty sucky; let's go deep in the count, then big fly.

SIXTEEN runners stranded by the Nats after 10 innings.
I know it's early in the season, but I haven't seen anything hitting coach Eckstein has done to help, compared to last year...
