After The Rain Delay

* We had a delay of two-hours, two-minutes. That means Willie Harris's at bat (interrupted with the count 3-2) lasted about 2:03. He struck out. Later in the top of the fourth, the Nats again loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score. Cristian Guzman popped to shallow left, and Ryan Zimmerman grounded into a forceout at second. The Nats have stranded six runners in the last two innings.

* Wil Ledezma is the new pitcher for the Nats.

* Shairon Martis's line: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, I HR, 48 pitches, 29 strikes. This is obviously deceptive, because Martis would have kept pitching were it not for the rain delay, but he becomes the third Washington starter in four games to pitch just three innings.

Wait, I don't get it. You say that Milledge's correct play is halfway between 2nd and 3rd. But if Francoeur catches it, M is stuck at 2nd. (Unless he's REALLY stupid and challenges Francoeur's arm.) If he is at a tagged situation, if Francoeur catches it, he's at 3rd. If Francoeur doesn't catch it, on most bounces he'll still be at home, which is no different than the midway positon. I think the correct play is at a tagged position. It's unfortunate that the bounce was such that he couldn't be home, but thems the breaks.

JayBeee, give it a rest. There are enough legitimate opportunities to bash Milledge, and you never miss a one. Sticking the knife in and turning it even when you have no evidence on your side other than hearsay just makes you look mean and petty, like someone carrying out a vendetta. Maybe you are.

Nice outing for Shawn Hill tonight at Petco.
5.0 IP, 7 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks, 2 ER. He left the game with the bases loaded and no outs. His reliever got the Padres out of the jam.

Posted by: usmc53 | April 10, 2009 11:52 PM | Report abuse

So? I dont care about Shawn Hill he wont be healthy for much longer.

Posted by: theredskin | April 10, 2009 11:57 PM | Report abuse

I hope Hill does stay healthy. He deserves a shot to see what he can do.

This is deja vu from Wednesday's game...

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 12:54 AM | Report abuse

Milledge has been making decent contact tonight...

Posted by: usmc53 | April 11, 2009 12:55 AM | Report abuse

Would LOVE to hear why they decided to bat Nieves instead of Willingham.

Posted by: DesertNat | April 11, 2009 12:56 AM | Report abuse

guzman now

Posted by: malcolmyoung1 | April 11, 2009 12:56 AM | Report abuse

Need this hit here Guz... nobody left on the bench

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 12:56 AM | Report abuse

Willingham already PH.

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 12:57 AM | Report abuse

Willingham already pinch hit earlier.

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 12:57 AM | Report abuse

It obviously sucks leaving so many guys on base the last couple games, but at least we're getting them on. There's actually a decent chance to score A LOT of runs if the clutch hitting ever comes around.

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 12:59 AM | Report abuse

Ah, thanks - just getting caught up. Not on the TV here in PHX and I just skimmed the live box score.

Posted by: DesertNat | April 11, 2009 12:59 AM | Report abuse

By the way, regarding Willingham, have any of the announcers started referring to him as 'The Hammer' yet? That was always his nickname down in Miami.

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 1:02 AM | Report abuse

Carp called him the hammer tonight.

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 1:03 AM | Report abuse

Are all these HBPs accidental? There seem to have been a lot of them...

Posted by: nervousnatsfan | April 11, 2009 1:04 AM | Report abuse

don't mind that hbp at all.

Posted by: nova_g_man | April 11, 2009 1:04 AM | Report abuse

How bout a double play ball, Beimel?

Posted by: usmc53 | April 11, 2009 1:05 AM | Report abuse

The pitching staff has been leaving Dibble's color commentary on during film review.

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 1:06 AM | Report abuse

Why did Jones not advance on that fly? Was he sitting midway between 2nd and 3rd?

Posted by: swang30 | April 11, 2009 1:07 AM | Report abuse

2 OF put outs by LM... on to 10. Heart of the order. Let's get a couple here guys!

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 1:07 AM | Report abuse

Haha. That would piss me off too.

Beimel is a little concerning. Guys are getting good contact against him.

Posted by: usmc53 | April 11, 2009 1:08 AM | Report abuse

Dang it, shoulda bought more beer...

Posted by: Juan-John | April 11, 2009 1:09 AM | Report abuse

Good to know. This team's always been short of good nicknames. And 'zee-man' just doesn't count...ugh.

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 1:09 AM | Report abuse

atl bullpen pretty sucky; let's go deep in the count, then big fly.

Posted by: nova_g_man | April 11, 2009 1:10 AM | Report abuse

Bench and bullpen are depleted - we need to score in the worst way this inning...

Posted by: BGinVA | April 11, 2009 1:10 AM | Report abuse

Zim still can't lay off that low outside breaking ball.

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 1:10 AM | Report abuse

He smoked that ball... just unlucky.

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 1:11 AM | Report abuse

Wow. Great play there.

Say what you will about Zim, but his bat does seem to be coming around a bit.

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 1:11 AM | Report abuse

New post.

Posted by: RicketyCricket | April 11, 2009 1:13 AM | Report abuse

Honestly, does ANYBODY have a better batting eye than Dunn?

Posted by: AlexL925 | April 11, 2009 1:13 AM | Report abuse

pb

Posted by: nova_g_man | April 11, 2009 1:15 AM | Report abuse

SIXTEEN runners stranded by the Nats after 10 innings.

I know it's early in the season, but I haven't seen anything hitting coach Eckstein has done to help, compared to last year...
