100 wins!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: rachel216 | April 6, 2009 8:12 AM | Report abuse

1. 2009 win total - 75 wins (optimism rules in April)
2. Attendance at Nationals Park (81 dates; last year's was 2.32 million) - 2.2 million (a slight dip)
3. All-star representative(s) - Ryan Zimmerman (break out year)
4. Adam Dunn's home run total - 40 (consistency)
5. Date of Stephen Strasburg's major league debut - July 2010 (after signing with the Nats right before the deadline, impressing in Spring Training, and blowing away minor leaguers for 3 months)
6. Nick Johnson's total games played - 130 (again, optimism rules)
7. Wins for John Lannan - 13 (to lead the staff)
8. Percentage of season Dmitri Young spends in big leagues, not on DL - 3% (just a taste of the Meathook in his last year with the Nats)
9. Josh Willingham's total at bats - 300 (if he doesn't get traded)
10. Innings pitched for Daniel Cabrera - 120 (before the Nats say enough of this)
11. Team ERA leader - Lannan, around 3.85... although Zimmerman is a dark horse if he can maintain consistency
12. Team batting average leader - Zimmerman hits .310 in his breakout year
13. Biggest surprise - Nats starting pitching is good enough to keep the Nats around .500 most of the season, thanks to a vastly improved lineup and a better then expected bullpen
14. Biggest disappointment - Milledge can't handle the leadoff and CF role, leaving the Nats scrambling for answers
15. Current minor leaguer (not counting Zimmermann) who will make an impact - Colin Balestar... he comes up mid-season to replace the suspect Cabrera and remembers to throw strikes and keep the ball down... or, Justin Maxwell is called up after Willingham or Kearns is traded, and takes over in CF for Milledge when the Nats decide he is not a CF....

Bonus:
Predict the Nats' rotation entering the last week of the season:
Lannan, Olsen, Zimmerman, Martis, Balestar (optimism, again, that these young guys will pan out)

From my bench seat at the intersection of Hope and Reality

1.) 2009 win total - 75 (+16)
2.) Attendance at Nationals Park - 2.15 million
3.) All-Star Representative - Face of the Franchise
4.) Adam Dunn's HR total - 36 (mostly solo shots late in games against pitchers with big leads throwing strikes to get outs)
5.) Date of Stephen Strasburg's major league debut - April 2010 (Boras holds off on accepting $12 million bonus too late for Strasburg to go to minors in 2009 but he makes team out of Spring training next year)
6.) Nick Johnson's total games played - 135 (Isn't he obligated to spend at least two weeks on the DL? Some appearances late in games as defensive replacement for Dunn)
7.) Wins for John Lannan - 14 (As he further develops into the Claude Osteen of the new millenium)
8.) Percentage of time that Da Meat Loaf spends in majors, not on DL? 10% (Before he reinjures his back and is never seen again in a Nats uniform. Talk about "Money for Nothing")
9.) Josh Willingham's total at-bats - 65 (before he's traded for starting pitching after Cabrera flames out)
10.) Innings pitched for Daniel Cabrera - 50 (allowing as many hits and walks as innings pitched. Even The Saint can't blood from this stone)
11.) Team ERA leader - Lannan 3.76 (J. Zimmerman 3.25 but doesn't qualify for the ERA title because he only pitches 145 innings in DC)
12.) Team batting average leader - J. Guzman .301 (With a .326 OBP)
13.) Biggest surprise - Nick Johnson stays with team all year after Dunn shows he's the second coming of Dick Stuart at first base.
14.) Biggest disappointment(s) - Pitching - Cabrera (see above); Milledge (gets to spend quality time at SYR learning the strike zone)
15.) Current minor leaguer besides J. Zimmermann to make an impact - Roger Bernadina, who will play CF and leadoff while Milledge gets refresher course in SYR)
16.) Lannan, Zimmermann, Olsen, Martis, Stamman

12.) That should have been C. Guzman .301 with a .326 OBP. Haven't had my morning tea yet.

Had Chico asked the double-bonus question "What development are you most looking forward to as a Nats fan?" My answer is the last day of the season regardless of team record or standings position when the contracts of Kearns, Da Meat Loaf, Nick, and Belliard come off the books. There’s got to be a better way to spend nearly $20 million for 2010. Buh-bye, guys.

Cricks, I still have the beard until after the first game, I decided.

Also, I decided I wanted to sleep ten more minutes this morning.

There may be a correlation, but I challenge you to prove it.

1. 2009 win total - 71
2. Attendance at Nationals Park (81 dates; last year's was 2.32 million) - 1.9M
3. All-star representative(s) - Johnson, Dunn
4. Adam Dunn's home run total - 44
5. Date of Stephen Strasburg's major league debut - July 4th
6. Nick Johnson's total games played - 150. There is no real reason for him not to be healthy. NL Comeback Player of Year.
7. Wins for John Lannan - 9. We have hyped this guy beyond all comprehension.
8. Percentage of season Dmitri Young spends in big leagues, not on DL - 50
9. Josh Willingham's total at bats - 100. He'll be traded, and bitter. He would be a better CF than Milledge.
10. Innings pitched for Daniel Cabrera - 60. This was a mistake, bringing this guy to Washington.
11. Team ERA leader - Olson 4.65
12. Team batting average leader - Zimm .275. Remains 3rd or 4th best 3B (offense + defense) in NL East.
13. Biggest surprise - They waste another season on "Zero Tool Player" Milledge when Dukes should already be in center.
14. Biggest disappointment - Forced to compete ONLY for corner-outfielder slots, with no ability to take the job in center, Dukes blows up.
15. Current minor leaguer (not counting Zimmermann) who will make an impact - Maxwell. When he gets CF job in August, Milledge will be bitter and angry.

Bonus:
Predict the Nats' rotation entering the last week of the season: Patterson, Hill, Redding, Perez, Zack Day. Our youth movement will: a. Not be as good as their 10 IP in Viera indicate, b. Wear down fast under the strain of the season.

Even I can't haiku do
So predictions come by rhyming two....

1. 2009 win total -
Opening Day is a slice of heaven
So give the Nats seventy-seven

2. Attendance at Nationals Park (81 dates; last year's was 2.32 million) -
Tough times at season's start
Makes 2 million sound quite smart

3. All-star representative(s) -
Three a greater chance than none
Say Guz, Zimm, Adam Dunn

4. Adam Dunn's home run total -
Dunn's home runs decrease by five
But guys around him make up the dive

5. Date of Stephen Strasburg's major league debut -
Prospect's start depends on pay
Record signing plays right away

6. Nick Johnson's total games played -
Freak injuries can't possibly last
Plays one-fifty despite his past

7. Wins for John Lannan -
Offense boost young John Lannan
A baker's dozen from his cannon

8. Percentage of season Dmitri Young spends in big leagues, not on DL -
Love Da Meat but his day is Dunn
Full months played? Less than one

9. Josh Willingham's total at bats -
A season's worth of bats will swing
But a new team his future brings

10. Innings pitched for Daniel Cabrera -
Strong season makes the O's go "Who?!?"
Wild DC, I think I love you.

11. Team ERA leader -
Double N Z takes the cake
Against fifth starters his stats make

12. Team batting average leader -
Guz, Zimm, Dunn make pitchers queasy
Nick's high average will come quite easy

13. Biggest surprise -
Surprise, surprise! Nick's not that frail
No DL stints to make him fail

14. Biggest disappointment -
Let down at second, the Nats will be
The weakest link for all to see
