This may not be the optimal defensive outfield, but with Austin remaining powerless it is the best offensive alignment. Kearns should be the late-inning defensive substitute for Willingham with Dunn moving back to LF.

Looks like Matt Cain is on the open market and the Giants definitely have interest in Nick Johnson. Thats the kind of deal I could be interested in.

from MLBTraderumors today...

Brian Sabean has gone to market. The Giants G.M. is seeking a bat with Nick Johnson atop his list, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News.

In a piece posted last night, Baggarly says Sabean is dangling Matt Cain to get a feel for his value on the open-market. "Because Cain is young, controllable and relatively cheap for two more seasons, it would require productive offensive players with similar service-time attributes to strike a deal," says Baggarly.

Johnson was a late scratch, maybe there is a trade brewing?

about to turn on the tv for the finale of the first round of the "battle of the beltways." masn treats these games as if they're pne big family picnic. we are subjected to listening the the angelO's announcers, the oriole bird tackles teddy in the president's race, masn presents this as one big intramural weekend, probably to save costs from doing two separate feeds. you don't see mets-yankees, cubs-white sox, dodges-angels or giants-a's with such love-ins. and we have to sit through o's promos during the broadcasts. i think i'll listen to MY broadcasters on radio today.

Matt Cain: 5-2, 2.40 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 60 IP, 41 K's, 25 BBs.

Nice.

I meant that Cain is 5-1 (not 5-2, as listed above).

where did the angelO's manage to find such slim, athletic-looking middle infielders and can the nats go shopping there?
