Now it looks like Rizzo isn't going to know what he has with Flores until the season starts as he won't be in game shape until end of April. This 3 to 6 months thing will be 6 months before Flores is able to start working out in my opinion unless the tear is so minor.

Looks like they are going to have to make a trade. Not sure Bard is what you want given his injury problems this year? Nieves probably won't be enough?

We can do with Nieves and Bard next year again. It's the pitchers we need to concentrate on. If they or the catchers are calling the wrong pitches, then it's the responsibility of the manager or pitching coach to call from the bench. If, as I suspect, the pitchers just can't execute the pitches they themselves are calling, that's a matter of skill more than selection. It may take a while to get the talent or the skill in our organization.

I can't understand how we went from a .500 team just a few years ago to this situation. That's not just bad luck.

The Phillies first run was a direct result of a back-up catcher. The top of the line types (Pudge, Molina, Mauers) would have faked the throw to second and fired the ball to third you always keep the ball ahead of the lead runner. Just saying, but these are the types of things that need to change or else this organization is doomed to always saying wait till next year!

I'm beginning to think Jack Wilson or Freddy Sanchez might be the answer to the middle infield issue and lets face it they aren't sold on Desmond and because of some crazy loyalty they will put up with Guzman for another year.

Oh no here comes Segovia, tack on a few more runs for the Filthy's. BTW the Phills have beaten the Nats in 24 of thier last 30 meetings. Great, and just think they will get the chnace to do it all over again on 5 Apr 2010.

Tippy, not sure this game is worth this much review, but I disagree on the first run. Riggleman made it clear he thought they should have done a better job of holding Howard close to first and Guzman should have made a better decision in catching the ball: either get the tag down and then come up throwing to the plate or forget the runner and come in more to get the throw and fire back home.

Thanks to Bergmann, it doesn't matter, anyway.

STARTING FROM STRATCH: This team looks as bad as it did when Manny was at the helm can one player(NYJER) make that much of a difference? Livo has earned a look for next year imo, i recall suggesting that the Nats take a look at Pedro before spring training and some of you suggested that he was too expensive and a bad clubhouse influence well......... yeah i think the good doctor(Andrews)has got a huge bank account but he's good and everyone in sports swears by the guy like i said in a post this morning Riggleman is done ditto McCatty, and wrong way Listach, Eckstein probably gets another year.

I seem to recall that each and every one of Patterson and Hill's surgeries were termed successful. We've had plenty of these updates over the last five years and I can't recall a single one where the surgeon or the GM came back and said "Nope, the surgery failed, this guy will never be the same again and his major league career may very well be over."

First run was a total gift, flatfooted brane-ded defence. The runner at third never broke for the plate until Nieves threw the ball. Guzman has to come get that throw and turn it around -- total sucker play.

Bergmann didn't just make a mistake, he made 3! It just took Worth a while to realize that there would be another coming. I have heard of mistake hitters, but Bergmann is a mistake pitcher. I am surprised when he actually throws what/where he intends to throw. When he does/did he has/had good stuff. Too inconsistent for MLB.
