Hopefully we can avoid a sweep ...

PERI: Don't bet on it!!

Sigh, I guess the closest "good luck" charm we now have to good ol' Ronnie may be JD Martin. People probably excoriated him worst, far, far worst than Ronnie for being a "soft tosser" etc. Maybe that's why? :)

Livo is pitching, at least he can keep it close. Worried about Kuroda though, we've never faced him.

Is Maxwell hurt or something? We have heard nothing about him since the Philly series. He was starting to hurt. He is no worse than our current leadoff guy.

@mjames0: Maxy is proving himself to be the .225, strikeout-a-game, dead-pull-hitter-who-can't-the-breaking-pitch guy that he figured to be from his season at SYR. There's no future for him here with Nyjer in center, and he certainly can't hit to compete for a corner outfield slot. I think he's throw-in trade bait (this roster is hardly short of those guys) as we try to upgrade pitching and up-the-middle defense for next season. I like Maxy the kid, his defense, speed, attitude, et al. He just doesn't hit.

Ah Belliard ... in the lineup again ...

Posted by: periculum | September 22, 2009 6:38 PM | Report abuse

Ronnie Belliard is such a great all around utility player. I expect that he will get 6 hits and 9 RBIs off of us this series. He'll hit a HR, he'll steal a base, with him playing the Dodgers cannot lose. I can't believe that we got rid of him.

I expect we'll see Maxwell in center against left handed pitchers (unless Riggles wants to try Desmond there), but I agree with @Sunshine that he just doesn't hit well enough or strike out rarely enough to be a long term fixture on this team. Maybe a fifth outfielder for his defense but that's about it.

The Nationals are doomed, DOOMED I say. Dave just interviewed Ronnie in the pre-game on WFED, and he's starting tonight (batting 7th). Belli squared = a severe beat-down of the local nine.

You know, for all the harassing we heaped on Ronnie B., when given a chance to play regularly he can and did hit major league pitching, and got several clutch hits for us.
We could do alot worse than Bellie.

I just love those classic Dodgers' road jerseys with "Los Angeles" across the chest. Reminds me of the Koufax-Drysdale-Wills teams of the 60's except for the trim and names on the back.

We picked on him because we loved him, that and he was mostly responsible for our 8-game winning streak . . . Go Ronnie Baseball!!!

@leetee: If Vin Scully still travelled with the team, I'd be listening to the LAD feed rather than Charlie & Dave right now. It would be just like my summer vacations in CA, listening to games with my great-uncle.
