Strasburg to return to mound on Saturday
Right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg, the Nationals' No. 1 overall draft pick this June and the organization's top-rated prospect, is scheduled to make his next start in the Arizona Fall League on Saturday, the team said Wednesday.
Strasburg, 21, had been scratched from a scheduled start in the AFL's "Rising Stars" game last Saturday after waking up with a sore neck, which was later diagnosed as a strained muscle. The team never considered the injury serious.
Saturday's start will almost certainly be Strasburg's last in the AFL, which concludes its schedule on Nov. 19. He is 3-1 with a 5.28 ERA in four starts thus far, with 17 strikeouts and five walks in 15 1/3 innings. On Monday, he was named the AFL's pitcher of the week for the week that ended Sunday.
In industry bible Baseball America this week, Strasburg is rated the Nationals' No. 1 prospect, with the publication saying he is a "once-in-a-generation talent." The rest of the Top 10: 2. C Derek Norris, 3. RHP Drew Storen, 4. SS Ian Desmond, 5. SS Danny Espinosa, 6. 1B Chris Marrero, 7. 2B Jeff Kobernus, 8. OF Justin Maxwell, 9. OF Michael Burgess, 10. OF Destin Hood.
