Jordan Zimmermann makes progress, slowly

Yesterday morning, Jordan Zimmermann stuck to his Monday-Wednesday-Friday throwing scheduled and pitched off of a mound for the second time this spring.

The bullpen session went "a little better than" when he threw Monday, Zimmermann said. Zimmermann threw 10 pitches from the mound's slope and 20 from the rubber, upping his total from Monday by five. On Friday, Zimmermann plans on throwing 10 from the slope an 35 from the rubber.

He's still throwing only at about 50 percent, and that won't change for about a month, Zimmermann said. The plan is to keep ratcheting the number of pitches, but not the intensity.

"I'm not throwing that hard yet," Zimmermann said. "So it's hard to tell how my arm is going to bounce back."

No way Harper is in the Opening Day lineup in 2011. Maaayyyyybeeee, 2012. Jury's out for me at least whether Marrero would be a better option at first than a re-signed Adam Dunn.

Don't sign Harper, for God's sakes. He's a freakin HS dude.

estuartj I love your posts but Harper isn't going to see the MLB 2011, maybe 2012 more likely 2013. I do see him as an outfielder though. We should see Norris sometime in 2011, too. Extra catchers that's not a bad problem to have, eh!

He's a great HS dude, though. Although I do feel weird penciling him in even before he's drafted.

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed.

Strasburg will have reached his inning limit by September and won't be in the rotation.

Zimmermann will be handled gingerly and will be in the bullpen in September, certainly not starting every 5th day.

Having CM Wang in September is a possibility, if he becomes one of the few who can return from shoulder surgery.
