Pat Listach was not amused by the Phillie Phanatic
On Monday, Nationals third base coach Pat Listach joined a long line of players and coaches made into a foil by the Phillie Phanatic. For Listach, it happened at the wrong time, and Listach spoke with a member of the Phillies coaching staff to make sure it didn't happen again.
The Phillies had just scored five runs in the fifth inning of their home opener to take a 7-4 lead. Listach was already mad about that, and it did not help when the fuzzy, green mascot danced to a Lady Gaga song and snuck up on Listach to pinch his backside.
Listach told the mascot, "You need to get out of here," only it wasn't that family-friendly. The timing irked Listach more than the actual act.
"That was bad timing," Listach said. "We had just given up five runs. This isn't Little League. This isn't high school."
Listach spoke with Phillies hitting coach Milt Thompson, a friend of his, in order to make his feelings known and to prevent further intercation with the mascot.
You can definitely see Listach's point. You also have to admit that's one funny video.

"I want you to hit the mascot with the next pitch."

Totally agree with you Samantha, I'm just thinking we might have to add a line to the chorus Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around With Jim:"
"You don't pinch, the butt, of ol' Pat Listach;
And you don't mess around with Jim, da do da do..."

Oh come on, I laughed
As long as it wasn't done DURING PLAY, people need to chill out and laugh

This is totally bush. And just so typical of that two-bit, skank-filled, 1967 rusted Cutlass-driving town. The Phillie Fanatic shtick was funny...for the first couple of decades. It's gotten old, tired and, well, unfunny. Folks, this wasn't SNL material.

Sorry, Pat. The timing isnt unfortunate. It's unfortunate you are a coach on a suck team that that gives up lots of runs. That's the root of the problem

Well done, Sunshine. That was an anti-Phillies rant worthy of 506 himself. I agree that the timing was unfortunate. Plus, personal boundaries anyone? :-)
fwiw, I also don't appreciate it when Screech cavorts in the stands behind the plate when *our* guy is on the mound.

Maybe Listach should quit whining and remember why the mascot's there--to entertain fans that pay his salary. Of course, being from Washington, he was probably unsettled by the sight of fans and a decent mascot. Don't worry Pat, you'll be able to have your quiet time next week in front of a few thousand fans at Nats park.

It's funny as heck to watch, and I'm a Nationals fan, but if I'd been Listach, I'd have been seriously ticked, too.
