Report: Roger Bernadina to be promoted

The Washington Nationals are planning to recall outfielder Roger Bernadina from Class AAA Syracuse following Tuesday night's game against the Chicago Cubs, according to a report on Nats Insider.

A Nationals spokesman said he did not have knowledge of the matter.

Bernadina, who on Tuesday was named the International League's batter of the week, was a late scratch from Syracuse's lineup on Tuesday and is expected to arrive in Chicago in time for Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Cubs, according to the report.

The Nationals will have to demote someone following Tuesday night's game. Manager Jim Riggleman on Monday suggested that this could be coming, saying that the organization was contemplating making a roster move sending down a relief pitcher in order to add position players as a result of nagging injuries.

Bernadina is batting .377 with two homers, eight RBI and seven stolen bases in 14 games at Syracuse. Bernadina, 25, was recalled from Syracuse on April 11 and played one game -- he was 0 for 1 in a loss at Philadelphia on April 14 -- before being optioned to Syracuse.
