Ryan Zimmerman leaves game [UPDATED]

Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman did not rule out returning Thursday after leaving the Nationals' 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies with a right hamstring injury. A left hamstring pull held Zimmerman out of the starting lineup five straight days last week, but Zimmerman was optimistic this latest ailment is not as serious.

"It didn't feel anywhere close to as bad as the other one," Zimmerman said. "It felt more like a cramp."

With two outs in the seventh, Zimmerman smacked a line drive off the right field wall. He wanted to stretch an easy double into a triple, but he slowed between first and second base. ("When I thought I was fast enough to get a triple, but I'm really not," Zimmerman said.") A trainer came out to visit, and after a quick walk around to test the hamstring he left the game.

The injury struck as Zimmerman was getting hot. Including tonight, Zimmerman is 9 for his last 20 with three doubles and a home run. "It's frustrating," Zimmerman said.

Right hamstring, left hamstring. Can this training staff take care of the players. With the lack of stars especially, I would think there would be special care with guys like Zim.

Hope it isn't serious!

Great win, but the bigger picture will be the status of #11.

Is he wearing the wrong type of cleats or something???? What is it with hamstring injuries in DC athletics.

Skins get plagued by these kinds of injuries for years. Now the nats?

alex35332: It has to do with proper stretching of the muscle itself and that should happen in spring training, the reason for the reoccurence of hamstring injuries simply explained is a lack of conditioning remember the old "palms down" in your gym class in jh/hs and the leg lift six inches off the ground as you lay prone on your back and you had to hold both legs together for 45-60 seconds, then who can forget the mile run outside weather be dammed in your gym shorts no less those tightie whities(LOL) some of the old standards would serve some of the pro ball players of today well in this day and age.

That was another fun game to watch, injury aside. Hope that Zimm's okay. Morgan's rundown in the 7th was one of the funniest I've ever watched. So, did Wil Nieves (who?) sport the Elvis 'do after the game? I just saw his interview on the field and I may have dozed off just a wee bit on the couch after the game...

(and thanks for *that* image, dargamps :-))
