Today's lineups

The Nationals will play without Ryan Zimmerman for the third straight game. Zimmerman was expected to return today after using Tuesday's day off, so his not being in the lineup is initially a little troubling. Also, shortstop Ian Desmond gets the day off, with Cristian Guzman taking short.

1. Nyjer Morgan, CF
2. Willie Harris, RF
3. Cristian Guzman, SS
4. Adam Dunn, 1B
5. Josh Willingham, LF
6. Adam Kennedy, 2B
7. Ivan Rodriguez, C
8. Alberto Gonzalez, 3B
9. Craig Stammen, SP

1. Shane Victorino, CF
2. Placido Polanco, 3B
3. Chase Utley, 2B
4. Ryan Howard, 1B
5. Greg Dobbs, RF
6. Raul Ibanez, LF
7. Juan Castro, SS
8. Carlos Ruiz, C
9. Kyle Kendrick, SP

Another day, another lineup with Guzzie batting too high in the order based on his OBP. Other than him being "more comfortable there" to paraphrase Riggles, why do they keep giving him these high places in the order? Is his ego so so fragile that batting 6th would send him into a shame spiral?

Why is alberto gonzales on this team?

Why no Desmond? Kennedy at 3B, Desmond at SS & Guzman at 2B makes more sense to me.

Agree with you estuartj, that makes much more sense that Gonzalez playing and Desmond sitting. Watch for Zimm to be placed on the 15 day DL later today or tomorrow.

Zimm won't go on the DL for another 5-7 days - that's how this team does it. Play short-handed for a week or so, then admit the inevitable and DL the player.

And a lineup related thought - how obvious how weak this lineup is when you take Zimm out. There's no hitting on the bench a tall. Zimm takes a few days off and Christian Guzman is the #3 hitter. Ugh.

desmond looks like he needs a day off. he hasnt exactly been smacking the ball around.

and about guzman hitting third...who else in that lineup would you hit third? the only possibility I see would be the hammer but then adam dunn wouldnt b able to walk in front of him since he's decided not to hit yet.

nami322 I don't think we disagree the Guz is the best option at #3 w/ Zim out - but that is an indictment in and of itself.

Disagree on Desmond though, don't see any reason for him to take 2 days in a row off in April unless he's hobbled by something we don't know about.

At least the Phillies will counter with a line up sans Jimmy Rollins and Jason Werth. Their injuries must be somewhat serious - speculation is that Rollins is DL-bound.

Zimm, on the DL say it ain't so damn what's up with a hammy this early in the season maybe i'm too old school but what are these guy's doing during the off season and in spring training. This lineup ain't scaring nobody, this is where an Elijah Dukes might have helped.

What are they doing????? This is the perfect time to see if Desi can hit in the three hole. If he can it would be the perfect move. our line up could look like this.

1. Morgan (speed)
2. Bernindina/Harris (more speed)
3. Desi(Speed + power)

Then you can slide Zimm to protect Dunn. with our offense we need all the speed we can get.

a rookie who's already pressing, batting third?

"Ok, kid, you're hitting in Zimm's spot.
But no pressure."

Good to see we are throwing our best lineup at the NL champs. I was looking forward to this after an off day but it could get ugly. I'm going to watch (assuming I can get out of the locked down security zone downtown) but will be keeping the corkscrew handy.

With Zimmerman out, that *is* their best lineup.
