Saturday starter will be Matt Chico or J.D. Martin

The Nationals will pluck Scott Olsen's temporary replacement from Class AAA Syracuse and start either Matt Chico or J.D. Martin on Saturday, General Manager Mike Rizzo said. The Nationals need to replace Olsen, on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation, for one start.

Chico, a mainstay of the rotation in 2007, has already made one spot start this year, going five innings May 8 in a Nationals win over the Florida Marlins. Martin started 15 games for the Nationals last season. This year at Syracuse, he is 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA in six starts. Martin missed two starts with back pain but has since recovered.

A weather update here at AT&T Park: The rain has stopped and the tarp is off. We should have baseball on time tonight at 7:15 p.m.

Chico threw 92 pitches tonight in Syracuse.

Seems unlikely he'd be back on rest that short

Well, that narrows it down considerably, then, don't it?

I grew up in the East Bay. Once the A's came to town we put the Giants behind us. Go Nats, beat the Giants.

Wow - 92 pitches for Chico hardly qualifies as 'going short' (thx Brian_); Seems like the 'smell test' has JD Martin getting the callup on Friday the 28th to face the D'backs.
