The Nationals lineup explained
The Nationals have a few twists in their lineup today, all of which Manager Jim Riggleman explained this morning.
*Willie Harris is in for Josh Willingham. Willingham might play in the second game of today's doubleheader, but he is still trying to heal his tweaked groin from Thursday night's game.
*Riggleman batted Adam Dunn, Ryan Zimmerman and Harris in the 3-4-5 spots, swapping Dunn and Zimmerman's customary spots and moving up Harris from where he typically hits. Harris is 5 for 8 with two doubles, a triple and two walks against dominating Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez. By batting Harris behind Zimmerman, Riggleman hopes both Dunn and Zimmerman will see hittable pitches.
*Ivan Rodriguez had been out of the lineup last night, but he is in there for Game 1 today. His back, "tender" last night, Riggleman said, is feeling better. Wil Nieves will catch Luis Atilano in Game 2.
And here's the Rockies lineup:
Rockies
1. Carlos Gonzalez, CF
2. Seth Smith, LF
3. Brad Hawpe, RF
4. Troy Tulowitzki, SS
5. Jason Giambi, 1B (Todd Helton is sick)
6. Miguel Olivo, 1B
7. Ian Stewart, 3B
8. Clint Barmes, 2B
9. Ubaldo Jimenez, SP

Zimm is protecting Dunn, and Willie Harris is protecting Zimm. And before you say "Willie Harris?!?", you should check his stats versus Jimenez. He's about the only Nat who has actually hit him well. Riggleman, as usual, is playing match-ups, just this time with the #5 spot and not relief pitchers.
