Nationals worried about winning, not Stephen Strasburg's debut

Inside the Nationals' clubhouse, the news that reverberated around the baseball world had little impact. They knew Stephen Strasburg would be arriving eventually, and while they're happy to add him, learning the precise day mattered little to them.

"I have no feelings about that," rookie shortstop Ian Desmond said. "When he gets here, he's going to be good. We've got so much other stuff going on. I love the kid, I can't for him to get here. When he gets here and throws his no-hitter or whatever he's going to do, all the hype everyone is talking, then I'll be excited."

Said third baseman Ryan Zimmerman: "He's got 100-mile-per-hour sinkers. That'll help. He gives you a good chance to win every fifth day. That's good for us. We're just worried about winning here. Obviously, we want our best chance to win, and he gives us a really good chance. It's not like we mark it on our calendars when he's going to be here. But it's exciting for us, and it should be good for us."

The Nationals will be offering unique deals for tickets on that for season-ticket holders. Starting Wednesday at 10 a.m. through Thursday, season ticket owners can buy up to four extra seats for the June 8 game against the Pirates.

When the Nationals add Strasburg, one starting pitcher will have to be jettisoned to the minor leagues. The most likely candidate, assuming Scott Olsen returns as scheduled and knocks J.D. Martin back to Class AAA Syracuse, would be Luis Atilano because he has options remaining.

"It's going to be a tough call, whoever it is," Manager Jim Riggleman said. "A while back, we knew it would be between the 1st and 15th of June. More recently, we knew it would be between the 4th and 10th. It's like setting your rotation up anytime, though. Things happen. It's pretty well set, but it's tentative at the same time."

All we have to start doing now is catching the ball in the ninth inning. Once can't fan 27 straight. . . .
