Scott Olsen making progress

Scott Olsen pitched off a mound today for the first time since May 21, when he left a start after only three innings with inflammation in his surgically repaired left shoulder. Olsen threw 33 pitches. "No pain," he said.

Olsen still has no formal plan to make his return, but he said over the weekend he believes he should return shortly after he is eligible to return from the disabled list June 6. J.D. Martin, who replaced Olsen, is scheduled to pitch tomorrow, meaning the next day for that spot in the rotation, because of an off day, would be June 9.

Catcher Ivan Rodriguez, the other regular on the disabled list, is still scheduled to return June 8, the first gameday he's eligible, Manager Jim Riggleman said. Rodriguez went on the disabled with back pain was aggravated after it had been bothering him intermittently all year. Rodriguez's return carries added importance, of course, because Stephen Strasburg is set to debut June 8.
