Stephen Strasburg's upcoming schedule
Even with John Lannan's demotion and the Nationals using a four-man rotation for about a week, Stephen Strasburg will remain on his once-every-fifth-day schedule. The Nationals, barring injury or rain, have mapped out his pitching outline until the all-star break. In the start before the break, Strasburg will receive an extra day of rest. He'll make four more starts before the break:
June 23 vs. Royals
June 28 at Braves
July 3 vs. Mets
July 9 vs. Giants
The Nationals will use the all-star break to rest Strasburg and stunt his inning total, which will allow them to pitch him deeper into the season. The Nationals open the second half in Florida against the Marlins, but Strasburg may skip that series all together.
"We'll probably bring him back not the first day, maybe not the second, maybe not even that first series down in Florida," Manager Jim Riggleman said. "We're not sure yet. That's where we're really trying to buy some time with his innings count."

Be nice if this holds. I grew up in the east bay and July 9 is my birthday. Happy birthday to me to see Stras beat the Giants.

Why are the nats babying SS? I mean when do they say ok you can pitch on a normal pitcher's schedule with a normal pitch count? It's not like he's pitching a full season. Despite only pitching 3 games in the ML, he's the best pitcher they've got.

Why are they "babying" Stephen Strasburg? Look up the names Kerry Wood and Mark Prior. And for good measure, also check out the history of Jordan Zimmermann (and even Chad Cordero).

July 9th? I like it. The Nats are really hooking the 21-game Plan D, aka Teddy's Plan. We got the 6/8 Strasburg debut, we get the 6/23 KC matinee, and now we get 7/9. And since I bought xtra tix for 6/18 and 7/3, that means I'll see all of Strasburg's home starts before the ASB. Sweet!

When are the Nats going to cut the umbilical cord from this kid? Stop trying to prevent him from getting hurt, becasue when you do that it seems to always backfire. Let him pitch on his regular days and stop with all of the babysitting stuff.
