The Hall of Fame and the Nationals
With the Hall of Fame having requested an artifact from Stephen Strasburg's debut, it's natural to wonder what else from the Nationals resides in Cooperstown.
Every team has a locker in the Hall's "Today's Game" exhibit stuffed with momentos from historic moments and plays. Ever-helpful Hall spokesman Brad Horn passed along a list of Nationals memorabilia currently on display. Once the Natioanls and Strasburg decide what to send, here's what it will be joining:
*Frank Robinson's cap from April 14, 2005, the first home game in team history
*Ryan Zimmerman's cap from March 30, 2008, when he hit a walkoff home run in the opening game at Nationals Park
*Alfonso Soriano's jersey from Sept. 16, 2006, when he joined the 40-40 club with his 40th stolen base
*Brad Wilkerson's jersey from April 4, 2005, when he led off with a single in the first game in Nationals history
*A ticket stub from April 14, 2005, the first Nationals game at RFK
*Vinny Castilla's bat from April 14, 2005, when he had four RBIs in the Nats' first home game
*Mike Bacsik's cap from Aug. 7, 2007, when he gave up Barry Bonds' 756th home run
*Josh Willingham's bat from July 27, 2009, when he hit grand slams in consecutive innings
*Chris Snelling's Virginia Tech cap from April 17, 2007, which was worn in memory of students murdered the previous day
*Terrmel Sledge's home run ball from April 8,2005, the first homer in Nats history
*Shea Stadium ticket stub from Oct. 3, 2004, the final game in Montreal Expos history

Who do we petition to have Mike Basick's cap removed from the exhibit? I have seen a lot of revisionist history regarding the topic, but that dude should NOT be honored for his (lack of) achievement...

Mike always was a risk-taker, and it was his *.

So, just to be clear, you're saying that it was his own * on the line, sec3? :-)
Oh, and Lance Cormier, grrr....

A pretty good list. I would like to see something from Zimm's hit streak.

Knew I could trust you with that one, 1a.
and there is no truth to the rumor that the HOF asked Blogfather for a beer from Duffy's for that game.

Willingham hit 2 grand slams in the same inning, not consecutive innings.

That list pretty much defines "we have to put SOMETHING in there."

@zimbar: I'd be happy to donate my Jim Bowden effigy.

We could put AK's misspelling of "mementos" above right next to the Natinals jersey.

Not HOF related (though it is historical), but Strasburg has moved the Phillies and Red Sox off of the TBS national broadcast this Sunday in favor of the Nats-Tribe game. We are living in a strange Parallel Universe.

I know that some folks don't like the Bacsik cap being in there but there is one funny aspect to it. The National's locker is right next to the Giant's locker. So the ball and the hat are matched well (with folks wanting the removal of both).

1) "Natioanls" is perhaps the most unfortunate mis-spelling of the team name I've seen yet.
2) It appears you've gotten some Expo on your otherwise clean list. Some poutine remover should get that out.
