Tonight's lineups

The Nats host Mike Leake and the Reds tonight at 7. Leake, out of Arizona State, was taken seven spots behind that guy Strasburg in last year's MLB first-year player draft. Unlike Strasburg, he hasn't spent a day in the minors, but hardly seems any worse for it -- he comes in to tonight's game 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA. With that, the lineups:

Reds:

Cabrera - SS
Phillips - 2B
Votto - 1B
Rolen - 3B
Gomes - LF
Bruce - RF
Stubbs - CF
Hernandez - C
Leake - P

Nationals:

Guzman - 2B
Morgan - CF
Zimmerman - 3B
Dunn - 1B
Willingham - LF
Bernadina - RF
Desmond - SS
Nieves - C
Atilano - P

Was watching TWIB earlier and the Reds were the featured team. Evidently Arroyo took Leake under his wing and is showing him the ropes. It seems the two have an unusual pre-game "routine" for Leake's starts. Arroyo plays his guitar and serenades him. They said that it's worked so far, and they don't to change anything. Hope that Arroyo breaks a guitar string today. Go Nats! :-)

Solid lineup. Let's get a W!

Cowboy Joe West behind the plate, Angel Hernandez in the field and two rookie pitchers on the mound. What's the over/under for balk calls tonight? Pick the number of ejections for the Daily Double. Add in reversed calls for the Trifecta. Yeah, it should be a good night at the old ractrack. Cowboy Joe looks like someone that needs a ride to the dog track.

Ooops -- ractrack s/b racetrack. Don't want that copy editor guy on my case. I can spell OK but can't type with a crap.

Get Dunn out of cleanup -- he NEVER cleans up!

I would hate to share a microwave with that guy.

Well now we know why Maldonado's not playin--just DL'd for fractured thumb. Why do I have to get my Nats news from ESPN and not the Nats beat writers? And how did they dude break his thumb? He never plays. Unreal.

Aww, maaaaaaaann. What was Maldonado, Plan F? Now we're onto Plan G behind the plate.
(Hmmmm."Plan G Behind The Plate" -- sounds like a cult movie)

and Natsmeister, I've typed with a POS, but never with a crap, either.

Nats active roster online indeed lists Jamie Burke as the second catcher.

so, Adam, with Maldonado on the 40-man, and 15-day DL, do they have to pay him MLB minimum for that time now?

Posted by: Sec3mysofa | June 5, 2010 5:08 PM | Report abuse

Same line-ups as last night for the postion players with a minor tweak on the Reds side. Gomes & Bruce flip-flop.

Burke was actually Plan E but was hurt. Messed up either way.

Ha! Post of the day (so far)

Adam: What's the status on Flores is he ever going to wear the tools of ignorance again? Derek Norris is obviously not ready for the show,Rizzo needs to maybe turn over every rock to find a backup.

I couldn't understand why the Nate would bother to pick up Coste just days before surgery and ending his season - Seemed like a total waste. I understood that Coste needed one more year of work for the MLB pension, and I guess he was just that universally respected enough for the Nats to eat that cash and spot.

If that was the case, what does Rizzo get in return? Admiration? A chit to be used later with the Phils? If this is a long term asset, perhaps now I get it a bit. But I dont know the reality. Anyone else know why Coste was signed just before surgery?

We sure could use a little help back there now! Missing Pudge and will refrain from any anti-Nieves talk!

I don't think they knew he was going to need it.
