Miss Iowa Katherine Connors coming to Nationals Park
The strange saga between Miguel Batista and Miss Iowa, a.k.a Katherine Connors, will add another chapter Friday tonight when, apparently, Connors will come to Nationals Park and throw out the first pitch. At about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Connors sent the following Tweet on her @MissIAusa account:
It's official - headed to Washington DC to throw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game tomorrow night!!!
The odd union between Batista and Connors began Tuesday night, when Batista unexpectedly replaced Stephen Strasburg to a chorus of boos and after explained his reaction thusly:
"Imagine if you go to see Miss Universe, then you end up having Miss Iowa, you might get those kind of boos," Batista said. "But it's okay. They have to understand that as an organization we have to make sure that the kid is fine. You don't want to expose him out there and screw up his future."
The next day, Connors challenged Batista to walk down a runway in high heels and declared she could "throw a pitch or two!" Batista explained his quote was misinterpreted and sent Connors flowers. Connors hopes that Batista will catch her pitch tomorrow.

I think someone on MLB Network recommended this last night. Free publicity for both Nats and Miss Iowa.
They should have her wear the Elvis wig after the game.

Good call on the Elvis wig!

As long as we don't have to see Batista in a bikini - or an evening gown for that matter.

This is well played all around and a nice story. I wish she was at Sunday's game so I can give them some applause.

Too bad it is a game against the Phillies where she will be booed. I hope someone explains that to her.
Great story. Good sports all around.

But they've been running radio ads the last few days that say Captain Morgan is throwing the first pitch tomorrow.

If the cheap-@ss Lerners substitute some corn pone from Iowa to throw out the first pitch, then I and everyone else who bought a ticket specifically to see Capt. Morgan should get a full refund and free tickets to another game. And maybe a pony, too.

And if her first pitch is a strike the Nats will name her the probable starter for Sunday's game.* Plus, wouldn't it make more sense to have Captain Morgan throw out the first pitch on Saturday, on Nyjer Morgan bobblehead night?

Be a great time for her to bolt from the stands and block George, Abe and Thomas so Teddy could get win #1!!! Now that would make it a special night.

Batista must be a baseball PUA ... great pickup move dude!

If she wears that leopard-print bikini, she can throw out the first pitch every game as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget Batista is a published poet.

So, tell me Stan. How you gonna explain all the booing the a-hole fans that you invited from Philadelphia will heap upon Miss Iowa ?
Posted by: mitlen | July 30, 2010 8:16 AM | Report abuse
Wow! Batista had it backwards. What if they came to see Miss Iowa and got Miss Universe instead?

we all understand his point, but surprisingly she's not bad for Iowa. Ms Universe still has her beat.
