Ryan Zimmerman, Michael Young team up on All-Star Game final vote
In trying to win the final vote to make the All-Star Game, Ryan Zimmerman will use some outside help. The Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals teamed up and encouraged fans who vote for Michael Young in the American League to vote for Zimmerman in the National League and vice-versa. They're calling it "Third Base Ticket." They could also call it the "Bob Short Moved the Senators to a Dallas Suburb Four Decades Ago Ticket" but that doesn't quite have the same ring.
This afternoon, Zimmerman taped a message that will play on the video board at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. A video of Young will air at Nationals Park.
Zimmerman still trails Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto, who also enlisted help. The Reds joined the Red Sox to promote Votto and Kevin Youkilis, a native of Cincinnati. It worked for them - both Votto and Youkilis are leading their leagues.
