Today's lineups

And now for something completely different. The Nats are trotting out a unique lineup at Miller Park today, putting utility infielder Alberto Gonzalez at first base with Michael Morse in right field and Roger Bernadina in center against left-hander Manny Parra. Here's how it looks:

Nationals
1. Cristian Guzman, 2B
2. Roger Bernadina, CF
3. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B
4. Josh Willingham, LF
5. Michael Morse, RF
6. Ivan Rodriguez, C
7. Ian Desmond, SS
8. Alberto Gonzalez, 1B
9. J.D. Martin, SP

Alberto played some right field earlier this year. Why not play him in right and Morse at first? Or they could switch every inning?
OK, I'll stop, I'll be good the rest of the evening, or until the second double switch, whichever comes first.

I'm surprised to see Morse in the line-up again. After the 2 homers last night, I figured Riggs would bench him today for sure. I actually kind of like this one.

Riggleman's roulette wheel lineups spin on but the ball always land on Guzman, Harris, or Maxwell ... oooh darned they sent him down ... but he'll be back if you have anything to say about it, right Riggles?

Riggleman must think that Guzman and Harris will be back next year. If he somehow makes that happen I think even more ST holders will turn theirs in.

Guzman at first, Gonzales at second would seem to make a lot more sense defensively. If Guzman can be trusted to play RF, it would seem he has what it takes to field the position at first.

And for what it's worth, Gonzales has never played first at the major league level either. But he's clearly a better second baseman than Guzman. So Gonzales 2B Guzman 1B would have to be better than Guzman 2B Gonzales 1B, wouldn't it?

Yet another example of baffling managing from Riggleman.

Should we be worried they are holding out Dunn because a trade is pending? I Hope not.

If Riggs wants to rest Dunn against a leftie, fine. And I'm not going to complain about Gonzales in the lineup instead of Morgan. So I'm going to be good and not complain about this lineup, at least until Gonzales makes an error at first, or Riggs pulls an absurd double swtich after someone hits a few homers.

Dunn's 2010 OPS vs lefites is actually a little higher than Alberto's, which makes this more baffling.
A trade in the works? Perhaps.
Kennedy has played more first than any other non-Dunnkey Natinal. So why Alberto?

Whatever. It's like religion. We aren't supposed to question or understand, just submit.

Let's Go Nats!

Is it normal to move players around so much, in an attempt to "rest"them? -what about lettting players settle in at their position, and play some error free ball, for a period of time?

I'm glad that mike is playing today, but not at FIRST base? Can't figure Riggleman out. There seems to be something brewing in the works?

Everyone be prepared for Nyjer to come in in the 6th inning and Bernadina shifted over to right regardless of how well Morse is doing.

God, Alberto at first? What a waste of defense...

I guess with Maxwell down its as good as any if you want to rest Dunn.
