That was a real baseball game last night. I hope all you young guys and gals will stop whimppering now and enjoy the Nats.
They are beginning to be real entertaining
and the top guys brass is doing fine.
Just wish they would silence the Dribble.

OK, so Marquis is officially back on the 25-man - Who caught the DL/DFA/Optioned short straw (Detwiler, Lannan, Stammen, Harris, or Mench)?

Well this lineup won't keep any opposing managers up late at night and why not give JWill a day off it's obvious he been slumping and he doesn't seem to handle it well let's see what the FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLAR MAN(Jason Marquis) can do, even money says he doesn't make it past the fourth inning.

At this point in the season, I'm personally hoping it's either Detwiler (on an option), or Harris (on a DFA). Neither one has contributed to the overall success of the team this year. I will however, give Harris props for his defensive work in LF over the last two years.

Gotta figure Balestar is a prime candidate for the Syracuse shuffle.

You've already got Batista as the long man.

JMAX can't hit, but he plays good defense and can pinch run.

It was interesting to note that Harris wasn't used as a pinch hitter as Riggleman almost invariably always does ... or double switch him into the lineup.

That's kind of telling. I would say its Harris either via trade or DFA.

I guessed wrong ...

From twits and tweets in the morning ... Bill Ladson:

"LHP Ross Detwiler is going on the disabled list because of a hip injury. I'll have more on #MLB.com."

Looks like Detwiler gets added to the back inventory until next year.

"JMAX can't hit, but he plays good defense and can pinch run."

So does Willie Harris who is also sub-Mendoza. JMax was supposed to play every day not bench hit. That was why he was in Syracuse. Now Riggleman will find a way to get him in as many games as possible ... if his hitting continues as it has I'm not sure how that will last?

@dargramps:
If you sit Willingham (against a LHSP), what does your OF look like - Maxwell in LF, Bernadina in CF, Morse in RF maybe?
I'm good with Riggleman's call on this one, since he has limited options - Bernadina & Harris have trouble against LHP, and Mench is a statue in the field.

Should Morse get on base there are plenty of guys after him to sacrifice him around the bases.

"With right-hander Jason Marquis being activated today, Craig Stammen will go to the bullpen. I also learned no one will be sent down to the Minor Leagues. Someone will go on the disabled list."

This should finish the picture? What this tells me is that Balester is the next likely candidate to get sent down on Tuesday. Extended rosters will see Zimmermann, Maya (and perhaps Detwiler again depending on if he goes on the 15-day or 60-day DL). joining the rotation.

I like Desmond, but I dont think hes ready to be the 2 hole hitter yet. Except for the occassion off day like today, Kennedy should be starting at 2nd every day and batting 2nd. Just a month ago though, I would have never thought that. Lets hope the Nats can take a road series today.

At some point Nieves and Harris need to go. But looks like Riggleman will try to keep that from happening until the rosters expand on September 1st, they will still be on the active roster.

What does it say about the 7-8-9 hitters in today's lineup that the best hitter of the three is Marquis?

----------------
And he did play nearly every day in SYR, as you pointed out. Since the callup, Maxwell(RH) is still behind Willingham(RH), Bernadina(LH), & Morse(RH) as #4-5 OF, along with Harris(LH); Mench(RH) replaces Morse on the bench as a bat for now. Bench guys should get occaisonal starts, but maybe Riggleman has been overly generous in that respect this year.

Peric, if that was a real quote, at least give the actual source credit.

With Marquis being activated, and Detwiler going to the DL (reportedly), the roster is still at 25 - The next move will be for Strasburg's activation on Monday or Tuesday, with a concurrent move (DL/DFA/Option) of another player.

Everything, and nothing. That's the joy of baseball, when the 'auto-outs' get a clutch hit. If not for that possibility, Wil Nieves wouldn't even be "Who? - Wil Nieves".
