Bartell Getting Look at Safety

The St. Louis Rams have moved former Howard University standout Ronald Bartell to safety for his second pro season.

Bartell, a second-round draft choice last year, played cornerback last season as a rookie. But the Rams now have a logjam at the postion, with first-round draft pick Tye Hill and veteran free agent Fakhir Brown joining holdovers DeJuan Groce, Travis Fisher and Jerametrius Butler

So new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett asked Bartell during the summer if he would mind switching to safety. Bartell, who had played both positions during college, readily agreed. He's been plagued by a sprained ankle in recent days, though.

The Rams open their exhibition season tonight against the Indianapolis Colts.
