Vinatieri Should Be Canton-Bound

Just a thought in the aftermath of the New England Patriots choosing rookie Stephen Gostkowski as their kicker and the Hall of Fame seniors committee settling on its 2007 nominees...

There's only one player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame solely for his kicking exploits--Jan Stenerud. But five years after Adam Vinatieri retires, there had better be another. He won two Super Bowls for the Patriots with field goals. He's made some of the biggest kicks in the history of the sport. He is, without a doubt, Hall of Fame material.

If he's HOF material, then so are: Gary Anderson, Morten Anderson, a couple ofthe Barr brothers, Norm Johnson, John Kasay, Mark Mosely, and almost any kicker who lasted until age 35. Vinatieri has been a fairly normal kicker who shined in the Super Bowl.

Obviously, you didn't read carefully or you're football IQ is quite low-whatever..But dude WON 2 SB's with his kicks-remember?? They came at the end of each game with time winding down--not much bigger kicks have been made. He also made several pressure kicks to win big games--not game-winning kicks in week 8. Fyi, Norm Johnson & John Kasay were average kickers. Btw, I'm no Pats fan honking his team's horn.

Hey (Wal) Mart - seriously you are an idiot. Listing kickers who had good careers through longevity does NOT a HOF career make. I'm a Jets fan - therefore biased AGAINST Vinatieri, and I think he should be in. And Mark did not even list his tuck rule kick in the snow that gave birth to the f^&%$#* Patriots dynasty.

3 in the SB if you count the one that supplied the winning margin in SB 39.

Also, perhaps more impressive were the two he made in the "snow bowl" game in the playoffs. Put aside the tuck rule question, but a 46 yarder in blowing snow to tie with time running out, and in the same conditions to win in OT.

You can quarrel about the careers of others, but who among those others has made more clutch kicks?

He's not HOF material. Like most kickers, he makes some, he misses some. There's been nothing spectacular about his career, which is what HOF credentials are based on. Otherwise, might as well induct Jim O'Brien (won Super Bowl V with a last minute kick).
