Sims, Dockett Fined for Week 1 Hits

Detroit Lions rookie linebacker Ernie Sims was fined $7,500 for a Week 1 hit on Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Sims drove his helmet into Hasselbeck after the quarterback slid to protect himself at the end of a run. Ray Anderson, the NFL's senior vice president of football operations, last week cited Sims's hit as an example of what defenders are not permitted to do to a sliding quarterback.

The league also fined Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett $7,500 for a late hit on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith during the opening weekend.
