All Local TV Blackouts Lifted for Eighth Time in Eight Weeks This Season
The NFL continues to hit new heights of popularity.
Prior to this season, there had been 13 weekends since the NFL instituted its current policy regarding local television blackouts in 1973 that all the games on a weekend had been sold out in time to be televised in the home teams' local markets.
This season, it has happened eight times in eight weekends. It happened again this week.
Before this season, it never had happened on more than four weekends in a single season.
Under NFL rules, a game must be sold out 72 hours in advance to be televised in the home team's local market.
