Bucs Could Place C. Simms on IR List Soon

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could place quarterback Chris Simms on the injured reserve list this week or next week, a move that would end his season.

Simms and the Buccaneers did not rule out the possibility of him playing again this season after he underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured spleen last month. But all of the involved parties acknowledged from the outset there was a good chance that Simms's season was over.

The Buccaneers soon might need a roster spot to activate quarterback Luke McCown. He's on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing surgery for a torn knee ligament suffered during an offseason minicamp.
