Merriman Says He's Hopeful Appeal Will Overturn Pending Suspension
San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman said at a news conference Monday that he's hopeful his appeal of his positive test under the NFL's steroid-testing program will overturn his pending four-game suspension.
Merriman apologized to his teammates.
"Hopefully nobody makes any kind of judgment or anything that basically makes me guilty for anything because nothing has been done wrong on my part," Merriman said, according to the Associated Press. "And I will try to get it straightened out as soon as possible. As of right now I'm not missing any time."
Attorney David Cornwell said at the news conference that Merriman unwittingly ingested the banned substance nandrolone, which was in one of the supplements he was taking.
