No Benching of Shockey
New York Giants Coach Tom Coughlin said during a news conference Tuesday that tight end Jeremy Shockey would start Sunday against the Washington Redskins at Giants Stadium if he's physically able to do so. Shockey has been bothered by a sore ankle but participated in Tuesday's practice.
Shockey said after the Giants' loss in Seattle 10 days ago that the club had been outcoached as well as outplayed. He issued a public apology later, and now Coughlin has made it clear that the tight end won't be benched for that transgression. Coughlin refused to say Tuesday whether he'd fined Shockey.
