Offensive Coordinators Taking the Fall

Offensive coordinators are the scapegoats for struggling teams this season.

Baltimore Ravens Coach Brian Billick fired his friend, Jim Fassel, on Tuesday after the Ravens' second straight loss Sunday. Arizona Cardinals Coach Dennis Green ousted Keith Rowen on the heels of the club's Monday night meltdown against the Chicago Bears. Cleveland Browns Coach Romeo Crennel retained Maurice Carthon following the team's bye week but indicated that he would take a more active role in overseeing the club's plodding offense.

Maybe it's because the alternative is admitting that the head coach isn't doing such a great job.

I think the NFL is a bit stuck on itself. Football is about physicality...whipping the butt of the guy in front of you. All of these special coaches, coordinators and assistants don't strap it up. Yes there is a cerebral (I know...a strange word to use when describing football) component but it's getting too much attention.

Just play the dang game!!!
