Seahawks Lose Special-Teams Standout Kacyvenski to Rams
Tailback Shaun Alexander's foot injury not only cost the Seattle Seahawks the services of the league's reigning most valuable player during Sunday's lopsided loss in Chicago. It also cost the Seahawks their special-teams captain, linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski.
The Seahawks released Kacyvenski on Saturday to clear a roster spot for running back Marquis Weeks, who was promoted from the practice squad to provide backfield depth with Alexander sidelined. The defending NFC champions tried to re-sign Kacyvenski on Monday. But he signed instead with the St. Louis Rams on Tuesday.
The Seahawks have a bye this weekend, then play the Rams on Oct. 15. Team officials are saying they don't expect Alexander to play in that game, which would leave Oct. 22 as the earliest return date for him. The Seahawks auditioned several free agent running backs Tuesday, including former Ram Arlen Harris and former Houston Texan Jonathan Wells.
