Stadium in L.A. Could Cost $1 Billion
NEW ORLEANS--NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said today that the league's estimates of the cost for building a stadium for a team in the Los Angeles area range from $820 million to $1 billion.
Those estimates are based on having a team playing in Los Angeles in the 2010 season, Goodell said, and could escalate further if that timetable is pushed back.
Even with that hefty and ever-escalating price tag, Goodell said the league remains committed to trying to put a franchise in the vacant market within the next few years.
"From my standpoint, it's not about a timeline," Goodell said. "It's about getting the right decision for the community and the NFL. As long as that takes, we will stay at it."

I still think this is a canard: the notion of an LA stadium exists as a threat to other cities who are being extorted over new stadia. If not, why did the Coliseum Commission suddenly back off plans for redeveloping the Coliseum for the NFL, and start to consider not just allowing USC's sweetheart lease deal but even turning operations over to USC?
I strongly doubt that anyone other than the owner(s) of a team in LA would realized any benefit from a new stadium.

Sounds like the NFL version of "stay the course"

The taxpayers in L.A. and California need to keep a close eye on this. Before one penny of tax dollars is spent on na billion dollar stadium, a detailed cost analysis needs to be provided with a guaranteed return on investment paid to the state.
The NFL and/or owner of the team placed in L.A. MUST pay their own way on this.
