Vick Should Worry About Throwing Ball Better, Not More Often

Michael Vick needs to purchase a mirror.

And then look in it.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback said in an interview with HBO this week that the Falcons have "got to throw the ball sometimes." He said that Falcons Coach Jim Mora is going to "have to trust in me to get it done" and suggested that former coach Dan Reeves perhaps trusted him more as a passer. He said he often wonders what it would be like to have a receiver like Marvin Harrison on his team or to spend just a week on a team like the Indianapolis Colts.

This, remember, is coming from a quarterback who's completing 50.4 percent of his throws this season and is the NFL's 28th-rated passer.

Maybe if he threw the ball a little bit more effectively, he would be asked to throw it a little bit more often.

Vick was sacked seven times during last Sunday's loss to the New York Giants and said during the HBO interview that he'd never felt worse after a game. He missed the Falcons' practice Wednesday because of a sore shoulder but practiced Thursday.

Vick's receivers are abysmal. Just last week, our intrepid receivers dropped a 60+ yard TD pass and a third-down pass that would have resulted in 1st and goal on the 5. And those are just the high points of their antics last week. This happens all the time. Vick could certainly be more accurate, but with playmakers downfield, he would be 55% or better.

I don't think its necessarily fair of Vick to fantasize publicly about playing with another teams receivers, but I also feel like a lot of the blame in the passing game has to go to the coaching staff. Vick led the Falcons to the playoffs in his 2nd year when Reeves was coaching, and he seemed like a more effective passer then than he does now. And the receiving corps wasn't any better in '02. I think Mora and Co. are trying, but they still haven't quite figured out how to maximize Vick's unique talents. Vick's never going to be an efficient passer a la Brady or Manning. That's not his game. But we've seen in the past that if he can complete 55 percent of his passes and is allowed to run, this team can win.

Vick is a bum. He's overrated... If u are not an accurate passer, than u just aren't gonna be an effective QB. And for those who say it's his receivers, Look at McNabb. His receivers are just as good(or bad depending on how u look at it), and he gets it done. Vick just needs to realize that he can't read coverages that good, and that's why he is not an effective QB.

If your coaches don't call smart plays, your receivers are not going to be open and you are not ogoing to throw completions. Vick's proven he CAN throw when he had better coaching.
