Merriman Begins Suspension

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman addressed his teammates today at the team's training facility before beginning a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's steroids policy.

Merriman, the league's co-leader in sacks, says that he unwittingly ingested a banned substance in a supplement he was taking.

"I'm not a cheater," he said at a news conference today. "I don't believe in cheating the game. I don't condone cheating the game. I have no reason to cheat the game. I'm about playing football and I'm a great football player."
