Promising DE Cole Gets Five-Year Extension From Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles signed second-year defensive end Trent Cole to a five-year contract extension worth about $27 million.
The deal contains about $12 million in bonuses and runs through the 2013 season. Cole's previous contract ran through the 2008 season.
The Eagles like to sign their promising young players to long-term contracts well before they're eligible for free agency, and Cole falls into that category. He had five sacks last season as a rookie and leads the club with 6-1/2 sacks this season. He became a starter when Jevon Kearse suffered a season-ending knee injury in the season's second game.

I agree with you, we do develop players pretty well in Philly. However, I would like to slide a bit closer to the Skins strategy. We over-rely on draft talent and can't seem to sign an impact free agent when the opportunity presents itself. The last one was the TO fiasco. Other than that, our free agent pickups are usually backup players. Had we gone after a guy like Peterson or Ayodele at LB this year, we wouldn't be 4-4.

Looks like I get the 1st post.
Maybe the 'Skins could learn a lesson here:
Develop your own players and pay to keep them. Considering the amount of playoff games the iggles have been in over the last ten years, it definitely works. Ditch the "let the free agent we trained for 3-5 years go and pick up somebody else's player" philosophy.
It obviously doesn't work.
Man, if we just had a few of our guys back ... Clark, Pierce, Smoot, Bailey to name a few. For folks wondering where the defense went, see the names listed above.
