Rookie Carpenter Could Replace Injured Ellis in Cowboys' Lineup

The Dallas Cowboys lost linebacker Greg Ellis for the remainder of the season after he suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during Sunday's triumph at Arizona.

Ellis reluctantly shifted from defensive end to outside linebacker at the behest of Coach Bill Parcells. Rookie Bobby Carpenter, a first-round draft pick in April, likely replaces Ellis in the starting lineup.

Ellis was taken from the field on a cart after getting hurt Sunday but later returned to the Cowboys' sideline because he wanted to walk off the field if it was his final NFL game.
