Savage Says Crennel Won't Be Fired

Cleveland Browns General Manager Phil Savage told reporters today that he supports Coach Romeo Crennel and Crennel will keep his job next season.

Savage said during a news conference at the team's headquarters in Berea, Ohio, that Crennel has "total support" from Savage and Browns owner Randy Lerner.

"Romeo and I are in this together," Savage said. "Some of the problems we've had this year, you can't lay at the feet of one person."

The Browns have a record of 9-18 under Crennel, including 3-8 this season.

Hear the bell Romeo, it tolls for thee. Nothing like the kiss of death disguised as the "vote of confidence". As a Browns fan I would like to see Romeo get at least one more year in Cleveland. I'm sick of starting from scratch every two years.

If you watch Crennel when he makes a decision to challenge with replay, you can tell what the problem is with his coaching. I don't think he is very intelligent, not to put him down, but to make the point that the Browns are in need of a "genius" coach, not someone who is coaching for the first time ever. As a Browns fan, I'm sick of hearing excuses for bad decisions. I sit right by the bench and I've seen it for myself. Everybody in the stands saying no don't challenge and Romeo throws the red flag anyway and loses. On obvious calls too.
